In your role and as part of the Carbon Dynamic team you are expected to support the organisation towards becoming more sustainable by continuously improving what we do and how we do it.

The Role:

Overview - this is a key role in the organisation’s design and engineering team. The role is responsible for delivery of architectural design activities safely, on time, on budget and on quality. The role makes an important contribution to ensuring the design and engineering team operates as an innovative, efficient and effective design unit, through good planning, resource management and skills development. The role is responsible for the delivery of a number of specific design and build projects safely, on time, on budget and on quality. It is also important to the continuous improvement activities which shall ensure the organisation is consistently finding safer, more efficient and more effective ways to design and deliver building projects.

Design management - we are looking for an individual who is able to take small to medium scale projects from concept through to fabrication and delivery. This will include producing and submitting Planning and Building warrant applications and liaising directly with the local authority. The individual should be confident in managing a client and their expectations whilst aiming to meet the requirements of the brief.

Integration - the applicant should be open and willing to integrate with the design team and contribute to discussions which help further the business or the underlying processes which drive the organisation. This will include input into finding efficiencies within the company work-flow both in digital skills within the design office and manufacturing skills within the factory. The company is looking for an individual who is able to work independently whilst also keeping the design team appraised of project progress, programme and costs.

Software - the design office primarily uses Revit as a modelling platform and any applicant should be proficient to the point where they are able to produce design drawings and also working/fabrication drawings in this software package, or be confident they could reach this stage rapidly. We are continuously developing our internal workflow and any applicant should be willing to contribute to improving the way in which the team works, generates and distributes information and communicates with the factory.

Key Responsibilities:
• Responsible for managing a number of design and build projects to ensure these are designed and delivered on time, on budget and on quality, liaising with other teams to ensure all technical information is available prior to being required.
• Responsible for supporting continuous improvement activities.
• Responsible for ensuring activities are compliant with organisational process and procedures, relevant standards and quality control for documentation and build process, general organisational safety and accurate allocation of time projects

Key Activities:
• Building design work using 3D CAD software. Managing resources within and out with the team to deliver projects on time, on budget and on quality. Knowledge sharing and training. Process development and automation as part of a continuous improvement process.

Key Skills:
• Excellent technical skills relevant to timber building design and construction. Highly organised. Pro-active and self-motivated. Excellent H&S awareness. Attention to detail. Great teamwork and communications.

Key Relationships:
• Internal with member of all Design and Engineering Team, the Design and Engineering Manager, Construction Project Manager.
• External with customers, contractors and suppliers..

Key Performance Indicators:
• Delivery of projects on time, budget and quality. Great customer feedback. Zero incidents, accidents and near misses.

Essential requirements:
• 2 years experience in timber building design
• Proficiency in Autodesk Revit (or similar)
• Working Knowledge of BIM & DfMA
• Knowledge of the Adobe Suite
• Exceptional design and communication skills
• Sound project management skills
• Strong verbal and written English language

Qualifications:
• Univeristy level qualification in Architectural Technology;
• Or, BA (Hons) or Honours Degree in a Design related subject, or above.
